Football

I’m a huge football fan. Go Cowboys!! I’m so glad they came to an agreement and will soon be on the field as normal.

Having said that, lets be careful just how big a fan we are and how high we hold this sport up. If there is no more football, the sun will still come up tomorrow.

Football makes a great sport, a great hobby, and great entertainment – but it makes a lousy god.

WWJD

A man walked into a gift shop that sold religious items.

Near the cash register he saw a display of caps with “WWJD” printed on all of them. He was puzzled over what the letters could mean, but couldn’t figure it out, so he asked the clerk.

The clerk replied that the letters stood for “What Would Jesus Do,” and was meant to inspire people to not make rash decisions, but rather to imagine what Jesus would do in the same situation.

The man thought a moment and then replied, “Well, I’m sure Jesus wouldn’t pay $17.95 for one of these caps.”

Success

Francis Chan: “Our greatest fear should not be of failure but of succeeding at things in life that don’t really matter.”

Peyton Rawls: “If you spend your entire life climbing the ladder, you better make sure when you get to the top that it was against the right building.”

God is not going to ask me and you, “How much time did you spend at the office?”, or “Did you check every box on your Sunday School report?”, or “How much money did you make?”, or “Did you hang out with the right people socially?”, or “Did you leave your children enough money to make them comfortable?”

What do you think he’s going to ask?

Nothing, because He will know whether your heart was for JESUS or not.

Success: The journey of knowing Him, and making Him known.

Isaish 26:8

You Are Loved

Think about this. You may not realize it, but it’s 100% true.

1. At least 2 people in this world love you so much they would die for you.

2. At least 15 people in this world love you in some way.

3. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don’t like you.

4. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep.

5. You mean the world to someone..

6. If not for you, someone may not be living.

7. You are special and unique.

8. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good can still come from it.

9. When you think the world has turned its back on you, take a look: you most likely turned your back on the world.

10. Someone that you don’t even know exists loves you.

11. Always remember the compliments you received. Forget about the rude remarks.

12 . Always tell someone how you feel about them; you will feel much better when they know and you’ll both be happy.

13. If you have a great friend, take the time to let them know that they are great.

Keeping this in mind and acting upon it will certainly brighten someone’s day and might change their perspective on life … for the better!

In Memory of Tony “Monkey” Brown

I will always love me some Tony “Monkey” Brown! One of my best friends in High School. I don’t know that I ever called him Tony in his whole life. Kinda like “Beetle” Bailey and “Nesbit” Sanders. He would always ride home with me in the Maroon Balloon to Wren. He used to make fun of me singing along with Toto in falsetto. One night we ran out of gas, and literally ran about 2 miles to my house to get a gas can. German Shepherds were going crazy in one of the yards, and I sprinted past him out of sheer fear! He laughed at me forever, saying he had never seen a white guy run so fast! We played basketball all the time after school and on Saturdays. And of course, he was a great trumpet player. Who remembers Tony, Pruitt, and Marsha Jones playing “Bugler’s Holiday”?!?? His grandmother sewed my Drum Major uniform! I will always treasure the memories and the friendship. His passing today again reminds me of how short the time is, and how much we should treasure our friendships. Take the time to tell those around you how much you love and appreciate them!

Strike Up Conversations

You’d be surprised how many people are lonely and think no one cares. So show that you care!

All it takes is a simple “Hello! or “How’s your day?” It doesn’t have to be deep or profound, only sincere.

A few spoken words and a few moments of attention can have a powerful effect on someone’s day. Extend the grace that God has given you!

Reach out and touch someone today!

Happy 4th!

I hope everyone has a enjoyable, happy, restful, playful, SAFE Fourth of July holiday!

One the first day of school, the teacher advises the class that each school day starts with the Pledge of Allegiance and instructs them to put their right hand over their heart and repeat after her.

As she starts the recitation she looks around the room, “I pledge allegiance to the flag..” when her eyes are drawn to Andy who has his hand over the right cheek of his bottom.

“Andy, I cannot continue till you put your hand over your heart,” she demands.

Andy looks up and replies, “It is over my heart.”

After several more attempts to get Andy to put his hand over his heart, the teacher inquires, “Why do you think that is your heart, Andy?”

“Well Miss,” answers Andy, “because every time my Grandma comes to visit she pats me there and says, ‘Bless your little heart,’ and my Grandma never lies.”

Obedience

The rewards of obedience are great, but so is the cost. It costs us everything.

Like the hymn says, “I surrender all,” not “I surrender 10%.”

No one will tell you that its an easy road. Jesus himself faced hardship on the cross. He wept. He sweat. He asked friends to pray.

But the result of his obedience was that God is exalted above all and Christ became the way for you and I to be forgiven!
