This new year, let’s take Nike’s advice – and “Just Do It”. One of the biggest mistakes I have made in my life is waiting for some divine feeling before I go and do something. As if the guidance of the Holy Spirit constitutes a warm and fuzzy feeling. I think the key to most all of us leading a productive Christian life, is to DISCIPLINE ourselves to walk in the way that pleases God. Can we do it on our own? No absolutely not, according to the Bible. But if we will DISCIPLINE ourselves to start, the Spirit will empower us to continue and to be “successful” in His eyes.
So, right now I encourage you to drop what you are doing and TAKE 15 MINUTES RIGHT NOW to go spend some time with the Lord in stillness. Do it now, before anything gets in your way. Do this: get your Bible and devotional book and lay them in your lap. Ask God to 1) guide you through this brief time, and 2) speak to you so that you know how to obey Him. Then, go. Follow His leading on where to read and meditate in the Bible. Then, if you need it – read through the devotional for today. When you are finished, pray, allowing God to bring to mind everything that needs to be prayed for. Then ask Him keep all this on your mind until you come back tomorrow.
If we will do this, I’m convinced that we will all live lives that please Him and will see incredible things happen in our hearts and in the lives of those around us. God bless you in 2014!
